Narayan Murarka
Murarka is the Past & Current President of Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club, D-6440. He has served as Assistant Governor and in multiple positions at the club and district level in such areas as membership, foundation, club service, international service and fundraising. He has been a frequent speaker at District Conferences. He has chaired an ongoing club program on Micro-Finance for over six years. The program addresses the needs of local businesses and has been successfully implemented in our own community. He has also been responsible for sponsoring two micro-finance projects in Guatemala. One relates to helping women to carry out weaving business. Thirty women have already been provided financing. Another project relates to preparation and sale of okara blended food products. Okara is a byproduct when soy milk is made processing soy beans with water and steam in a pressure cooker type machine called mechanical cow. Murarka has been the Global Grants Chair of D-6440 District Foundation Committee for the last five years. During this time, over 35 global grants have been sponsored by clubs within his district. He organized and conducted the Grant Management Seminars for four years. Murarka is well versed in the Global Grants policies, procedures and processes having helped multiple Rotarians to navigate through the challenges. Some of these grants have micro-finance component. Murarka is also the Primary Rotarian for four major Global Grants related to Water & Sanitation, Nutrition, Health and Literacy in Guatemala. These projects are the result of multi-country, multi-district and multi-club partnership in pooling financial resources. Murarka is the recipient of “The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service". Murarka is also the Primary Rotarian for a new competitive challenge grant on WASH in Schools (WinS). This project is in partnership with Club Rotario Guatemala Sur and involves integration of WASH activities with health, hygiene and education for 48 schools with over 16,000 students. Murarka is Cadre of Technical Advisors of the Rotary Foundation. He is also a member of Water and Sanitation Rotary Action Group (WASRAG) serving as WASRAG Ambassador and Professional Team Member.
