Safina Rahman

Rotary has been a major component of Rtn. Safina Rahman's life since October 2002, when she joined the RC Dhaka Midtown. Dedicating herself to Rotary she was soon made the club secretary the next year and became the president of her club in 2005-06. Due to her very active role in Rotary in Bangladesh she soon after joining the Organization became the Chair District Family of Rotary Committee, in 2003 -04, and went on in succession to become the President of the Presidents' Forum, Chair District Cultural Committee in 2006-07, Assistant Governor in 2007-08 and Deputy Governor in in 2010-11. She Chaired the District Conference and Major Gift Committee in 2008-09, Gift of Life Committee and the high profile Gold Medal Award Committee & Ceremony in 2010-11. Playing a very prominent role in her Club and the formation of the Rotary Club of Dhaka Midtown Foundation she became the Founder Member Secretary. Before her election to the position of DG, she also was the Chair of the District Fellowship Committee, Assistant Trainer and Member Secretary National PolioPlus Committee. Beyond our District RI 3280 she has been the Zone Coordinator for Literacy, Assigned to Zone 6A (Eastern India, Bangladesh and Nepal). She moved up the Rotary ladder quickly and served as DG during RY 2014-`5. Awarded for her dedication to Rotary, she has received the Service Above Self Award (the highest individual Rotary award) in 2009-10. Before that in 2003-04 she also received the Four Avenues Citation. In the RI District 3280 she was the Rotarian of the Year I 2006-07 and the Best President in 2005-06. She is a PHF, Benefactor and Major Donor of The Rotary Foundation. She is also a Paul Harris Society Member as she pledged to donate at least $1000.00 to TRF each year. Attended RI Zonal Institutes in Manila (2009), Bangkok (2010), and had the distinction of being panelists both the Institutes. Also attended Bali Institute (2011) and RI South Asia Conference on cooperation and development held in Colombo, Sri Lanka (2011). She has attended the RI Convention in Montreal (2010) and Bangkok (2012). Born in 1964, she is married to Mr. Sajjad Ahmed, a business man, and is a mother of two lovely daughters. The elder Ariqa Satar is an Actuary and pursuing her Phd in the U.S. the younger Ariba is obtaining her Bachelor's degree from Monash University in Malaysia. Education wise Safina is a graduate in Nutrition from the College of Home Economics, Dhaka University. Following the graduation she earned Diplomas in SMC Management, Human Resource, Child Psychology, Child Development & Nutrition. She has attended numerous symposiums and seminars at home and abroad. Professional career revolves around Lakhsma Sweaters Ltd. as Chairman of the 100% export oriented company which is known for its excellent quality exports of readymade sweaters to countries in North America, Europe and Australia. She worked as Program Manager (1991-95) - Marie Stopes Clinic Society Worked in the field of reproductive health. Early job experiences were as Volunteer - Salvation Army, Melbourne, Australia Raised funds and mobilized volunteers for humanitarian service and as a Teacher in Scholastica School, teaching in elementary level. Also Involved in many other business, community, social and cultural forums she is the First woman Director to the Board of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industries as Convener SME Development & Product Diversification, Member of SME Foundation, France Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, BGMEA and Zonta Club, Chair, Future Leaders Forum, National Commissioner Bangladesh Scout Foundation Fund Raising, Past National President Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bangladesh (2005). She was also actively involved in the Gulshan Society and served as Vice President. She is the recipient of Best Female Entrepreneurship award- Rokeya Podok received from Nari Kontho Foundation (2006).
